Vol. 190 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Singer Case: Judgment of Court of Criminal Appeal.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if he will cause to be placed in the Library copies of the judgment of the Court of Criminal Appeal in the People at the suit of the Attorney General versus Paul Singer.

When the judgment of the Court in the case in question is available I shall have a copy placed in the Library. My acceding to the Deputy's request in this instance should not be treated as a precedent.

Inasmuch as there does exist a considerable amount of public anxiety in regard to this matter, could the Taoiseach indicate when the copy of the judgment will be made available?

I do not know. It will be made available as soon as possible.

The Taoiseach will appreciate those of us not familiar with the procedure of the Court of Criminal Appeal have no notion how long that may take. Would it be a matter of days?

I think so. It would be a matter of some days.

One could expect it, say, before the end of next week?

I would suppose so. I am afraid I am as unfamiliar with the procedure as the Deputy.

Perhaps the Taoiseach would make it known to the Chief Justice, in the special circumstances, that the matter is one of some urgency and that if anything could be done to expedite the execution of the transcript, it would be acceptable.
