Vol. 191 No. 3

Civil Liability Bill, 1960: Report of Special Committee.

The Report of the Committee is as follows:—

The Special Committee has gone through the Bill and has made amendments thereto. The Bill, as amended, is reported to the Dáil.

I move:

(i) that the Report do lie upon the Table; and

(ii) that the Bill, as amended in the Special Committee, and the Report and Proceedings of the Committee be printed.

Agreed and ordered accordingly.

When is it proposed to fix the Report Stage of the Bill arising out of this report?

The report has to be printed.

There were a great many amendments put in by the Special Committee and I would urge the Taoiseach to arrange that the White Paper explanatory memorandum which was circulated with the Bill as originally introduced be brought up to date before the Bill comes back to the House. Otherwise it is going to be very difficult indeed to deal with it because the Bill has been amended in very material respects.

We may have to look at the constitutional implications of that because the amendments have not yet been adopted by the Oireachtas.

We did that in relation to the Intoxicating Liquor Bill.

All right.
