asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received a proposal from Kerry County Council for sanction to build a number of single two to three-roomed rural cottages to house applicants in need of rehousing who have no dependants; and if such proposal will be approved and a full subsidy allowed.

A sketch plan for a two-roomed house stated to be intended for the accommodation of elderly couples, single persons, etc., was received on 17th instant with a request that it be discussed with the County Engineer by an Inspector of my Department. The housing authority have been informed that arrangements are being made accordingly. Subsidy at the higher rate is payable in respect of, inter alia, the rehousing of persons displaced by statutory operations of a housing authority. Subject to the relevant statutory provisions, housing authorities may otherwise avail themselves of a capital grant of £250 per house in respect of the provision of houses reserved for elderly persons.
