Vol. 191 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salaries, Travelling Expenses and Visits Abroad of Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries.

11.

asked the Minister for Finance the total sum paid by way of increases in salaries of Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries since March, 1957.

Between March, 1957 and 30th April, 1960, there was no change in the basis of remuneration of Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries. At that time the annual salaries of Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries were £2,125 and £1,560 respectively, these amounts including the Deputy's allowance of £624, free of tax. Pursuant to the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices (Amendment) Act, 1960, salaries of £2,000 and £1,200 respectively, became payable to Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries with effect as from 1st May, 1960. There was, therefore, no increase in Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries salaries as such. In common, however, with all other Deputies they receive an allowance of £1,000 a year for expenses subject to tax pursuant to the same Act.

12.

asked the Minister for Finance the total sum paid by way of travelling expenses to Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries since March, 1957.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance the total sum paid by way of travelling or other expenses in respect of Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries for trips outside the State since March, 1957.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each Minister and Parliamentary Secretary the number and duration of trips outside the State since March, 1957.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take questions Nos. 12, 13 and 14 together.

The particulars requested will take some time to assemble and I should be glad if the Deputy would repeat the questions next week.
