Vol. 191 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Galway Bog.

52.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is the intention of the Land Commission to drain that part of the Poolboy bog on the Trench Estate, County Galway, which was sold to tenants last year, in order to enable the tenants to avail of the services of a turf-cutting machine for the 1962 season.

I presume the Deputy is referring to turbary allotted since April, 1960, on this estate, in the townlands of Kellysgrove and Graigueawoneen adjoining Poolboy. In recent years, extensive development including drainage has been carried out by the Land Commission on this bog—the total sums sanctioned to date for such works amounting to £45,000. Development of the bog is, in fact, still continuing with a view to disposal of the balance of the turbary.
