Vol. 191 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Insurance Stamps of Domestic Employees of Farmers.

5.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare what price of insurance stamps must be affixed to cards held by female domestic employees in the employment of farmers and those whose income is derived mainly from agriculture.

The weekly rate of employment contribution payable in respect of female employees who are employed mainly in domestic service as defined in the Social Welfare Act, 1952, whether employed by farmers or other employers is 5/9d., of which the employer is required to pay 3/3d. and the employee 2/6d.

Where the employment is of a female employed contributor and is mainly in agriculture, contributions as follows are payable: (a) Payable by the employed contributor, 1s. 9d.; (b) Payable by the employer, 2s. 6d.

In cases where employment is mixed, i.e., partly in "domestic service" and partly in "agriculture", the rate of contribution payable is that appropriate to the class of employment in which the employee is mainly engaged. This is a matter which, pursuant to the provisions of the Social Welfare Act, 1952, falls to be decided by a Deciding Officer, or, in the event of an appeal, by an Appeals Officer. Any person who is dissatisfied with the decision of an Appeals Officer as to the rate of contribution payable in respect of a particular employment may appeal therefrom to the High Court on any question of law.
