asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has seen a report that an Irish pipe band in New York which invited various Irish firms to furnish details of available material suitable for band uniforms were compelled to acquire the uniforms in Scotland as no Irish manufacturer approached was interested in the order; and if he will consider withdrawing the benefit of protective quotas or tariffs from any industries which decline like export orders in future.

I have not seen the report referred to by the Deputy and I am not in possession of the facts in this case. A firm could, however, have good reasons for not wishing to take on a particular order and I would not consider that a refusal to do so would justify the withdrawal of protection from the industry.
