Vol. 192 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Surveys: Department Circular.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that large numbers of workers in the Mallow and Blarney areas, County Cork, have to travel long distances to work; and that the qualification of distance from employment as set out in the circular issued from his Department in 1960 is being ignored in housing surveys carried out by the local authorities; and if he will take steps to have the circular reissued to local authorities.

There is no reference in any circular letter issued from my Department to housing authorities in 1960 to distance from place of employment as a qualification for re-housing. I am not aware of any housing surveys at present being carried out by local authorities other than the survey of unfit houses requested by circular letters issued from my Department in 1960 and 1961.
