Vol. 192 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Courts Stamps on Legal Documents: Cork Equipment.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that owing to the absence of equipment for impressing courts of justice stamps upon legal documents in Cork it is necessary for litigants and legal firms to send such documents to Dublin to be impressed; and that such documents have to be returned to Cork after impressing; and if, having regard to the long delays, grave inconvenience and extra expense involved, he will now make provision for such equipment in Cork.

My information is that documents handed in at the Cork Stamp Office for stamping in Dublin are stamped on the day they are received in Dublin and are returned immediately. There are no postal charges. In these circumstances, I cannot agree that the procedure causes long delays, grave inconvenience or extra expense to the litigants and legal firms concerned.

Is there any special reason why such facilities should not be made available in Cork, now that we have decided to have High Court sittings in Cork?

The expense involved in having this done would be considerable.

Would it?

Yes, the capital expense.
