Vol. 192 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Harbour Improvement Scheme.

41.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether in view of the representations made to him by the deputation from Wexford Harbour Board he will reconsider his decision to refuse a grant for an improvement scheme for Wexford Harbour.

I have already made it clear to the Wexford Harbour Commissioners that I am prepared to examine any practicable proposals for the improvement of their harbour on receipt of the necessary detailed technical and financial information.

I understand that the Harbour Commissioners have abandoned the idea of reviving a scheme which was mooted pre-war, which would now cost about £½m. and to which the technical and economic objections are overwhelming.

The Minister is prepared, I assume, to consider a more modest scheme than that sent up recently.

They are preparing to make application for a scheme involving a dredger and provide the necessary technical information to ensure that the normal dredging of the harbour will continue.

The Minister has no concrete proposals before him at present?
