Vol. 192 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Staffing of Donegal Land Project Section.

18.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the Land Project Section of his Department in County Donegal is understaffed; and if he will have this matter remedied forthwith.

I cannot agree with the Deputy. In fact arrears of Land Project work in Co. Donegal are at present very small.

I visited Inishowen on Monday and there is a definite need for an inspector there.

I see from the figures that of the 1,312 applications with the Department up to the end of October, only 113 are outstanding. That would show that the average waiting period is only one month.

Furthermore, I understand that the office of inspector was available for the advising of farmers in the different aspects of farming. Apart from the Land Project, he was also available as a part-time potato inspector. There is a great demand for an inspector.

I am afraid I cannot comment on that.
