Vol. 192 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blackrock (Dublin) Parking Arrangements.

85.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the loss to traders and the inconvenience to shoppers arising out of the present parking arrangements at Blackrock, County Dublin; and if he will reconsider the existing arrangements in consultation with the Blackrock Residents' Association and any other interested parties.

I am aware that some Blackrock traders do not welcome the parking arrangements. I have considered carefully their representations but I cannot accept that their complaints are well founded or that they justify any change. I am satisfied that a prohibition on parking in Main Street, Blackrock, and in parts of certain other streets, is necessary in order that severe traffic congestion may be avoided.

There are ample parking facilities close to the Main Street and I would suggest that the traders, in their own interests, would do well to stress the existence of these facilities.
