Vol. 192 No. 8

Business of Dáil.

May I get some elucidation? I am not quite clear what was ordered in relation to 9 o'clock. Are we resuming the Local Authorities (Works) Act motion at that time?

I am not quite sure how we stand in that regard at the moment, seeing that the two Deputies whose names are appended to the motion have been suspended from the service of the Dáil and I understand that Deputy Dunne is not ready to go on with his Bill. So that, if the Local Authorities (Works) Act motion falls for any reason arising out of the situation that has arisen, I gather it is the Labour Party's Housing Bill which will be next and which we are ready to take at 9 o'clock.

We will be able to tell the Whip within the next five minutes whether it will be the Housing Bill or the Agricultural (Wages) Bill.

May I say that as far as the Government Party are concerned, we are ready to discuss the Housing Bill, but I would not say we would be able to discuss the Agricultural (Wages) Bill. We will proceed on the assumption that the Housing Bill will come first.

In the situation that has arisen, I wonder would it be possible for the Whips to agree to meet and see if perhaps it might be better, having regard to the hour and having regard to the fact that the Deputies who have the other motion before the House will not be here at 9 o'clock, to take the health services motion this evening. We could meet and see and, if necessary, come back and discharge the other order.

I think that is a reasonable suggestion.

The Whips could meet straightway, if that suits.
