Vol. 192 No. 8

Written Answers. - Road Workers' Wages.

167.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of each county council the rate of wages paid to road workers on 1st December, 1961, the amount and operative date of wage increases in 1961, and details of proposals awaiting sanction in his Department; and further if he will state the local authorities which have revised the differentials for supervisory duties and the nature of such revision and the operative dates.

The rates of wages of county council roadworkers and the amount and operative date of each increase in wages granted in 1961 are set out in the following statement. There are no proposals for the award of wage increases to roadworkers awaiting sanction in my Department. All county councils except Carlow, Kerry, Longford, Mayo and Sligo have revised the differentials payable to supervisory roadworkers. The revisions had the effect of increasing the maximum differentials of 10/-, 7/- and 4/- per day for the three generally recognised grades of supervisory roadworkers to 15/-, 10/- and 6/- respectively. Pro rata increases have been granted to related local grades. The operative date of the adjustments in each case is set out in column 4 of the statement.
