Vol. 192 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abbey Theatre Directors.

21.

Mr. Ryan

andMr. T. Lynch asked the Minister for Finance the names of directors appointed by the Government to the Board of the Abbey Theatre, the dates of their appointment, and the dates when their appointments will terminate.

The Government representative on the Board of the Abbey Theatre is Dr. Séamus Wilmot, who was appointed in July, 1958. No date has been fixed for the termination of the appointment.

Have we any shares in the Abbey Theatre?

I do not think so.

We gave them £250,000 of public money?

I got that out of the Minister, anyway.

The Deputy is right in saying "we". We all did it.

Dáil Éireann.

And the Deputy did not vote against it.

I stood against it, myself and my colleague, Deputy Richie Ryan. It cost more than that hall of yours.
