Vol. 192 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Statutory Instruments: Index to Volumes.

24.

asked the Minister for Finance the approximate number of statutory instruments which came into force since 1947; whether any index has been issued to the annual volumes of such statutory instruments since 1947; if not, what the reason is for the failure to publish such an index; and if in view of the fact that in a reply of 2nd November, 1960 he expressed the hope that such an index would be published in the first half of 1961 he will state what circumstances have occurred to prevent the publication in the first half of 1961 or since.

The number of Statutory Instruments which were made since 1947 is about 4,500. Each of the annual volumes of such instruments contains an index to the instruments included in the volume.

I indicated in my reply of the 2nd November, 1960 that a consolidated index covering the years 1948/1958 was in course of completion and that it was hoped to have it published in the first half of 1961.

Owing to the exceptional pressure of work on law reform and other matters, it has proved impossible to complete the index within the time indicated in my reply. The material for the period 1948/1958 is now virtually ready for printing but it has been decided, in view of the unavoidable delay, that it would be preferable to bring the index down to the end of 1960. This revision is now in progress and the work is expected to be ready for the printer in the near future.
