Vol. 192 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rate of Tax on Tralee Tractors.

91.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that tractor owners in the Tralee area who bring turf for sale by tractor once a week are being summoned and forced to pay £31 10s. tax in place of £8 on their tractors; and whether in view of the fact that these tractor owners use tractors for this purpose only once a week he will ensure that they will be permitted to continue paying tax at the £8 rate.

I am not so aware. The minimum road tax payable on a tractor used for haulage of turf for reward is £31. 10.0. per annum. The frequency of such haulage has no bearing on the rate of duty payable.
