Vol. 193 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Vocational Schools.

109.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to have vocational schools erected at Ballycroy, Ballycastle and Foxford, County Mayo.

The provision of new vocational schools is a matter for the vocational education committee concerned in the first instance. The building of new vocational schools at Ballycroy, Ballycastle and Foxford is included in the draft building programme as submitted by County Mayo Vocational Education Committee to my Department in 1955. No firm proposal has yet been received in my Department in relation to the proposed new school at Ballycroy. I have approved in principle of the provision of a new vocational school in the Ballycastle area and the suitability of a site which is proposed for purchase is now being considered by my Department. I have also approved in principle of the provision of a new vocational school in Foxford and have recently sanctioned the purchase of a site for it.
