Vol. 193 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Protection of Agricultural Workers Using Poisonous Substances.

27.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the hardships endured by agricultural workers because employers are not taking proper safety measures in the use of poisonous substances and because of the inadequate prescription of industrial diseases in the workmen's compensation code; and if he will state the names of the representatives of agricultural workers appointed to the Council established under the Poisons Act.

I am not aware of any cases of hardship of the kind referred to by the Deputy but if any particular cases are brought to my notice I will have them investigated. Questions relating to workmen's compensation do not fall within my province. As regards the Council provided for under the Poisons Act, 1961, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his Question on this subject on the 6th December, 1961.
