Vol. 193 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Common Market: Rationalisation of Irish Industry.

40.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what the precise meaning of the term rationalisation is as used by him as a suggestion for survival in the EEC to native industry.

Rationalisation means the adoption of measures designed, consistent with efficiency, to attain the highest possible production of any given line of goods and consequently to achieve the greatest possible reduction of production costs.

Will the Minister accept that the creation of a monoply would not be an ideal form of rationalisation?

Not necessarily.
