Vol. 193 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Estate Duty Grants to Local Authorities.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of the year ending 31st March 1961 the amount paid to each local authority by way of estate duty grant, and the amount which each such local authority would have received by way of increase in main road maintenance grant if the compensatory 10 per cent. increase recently announced had then been payable.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the information:—

Local Authorities

Estate Duty Grant paid in respect of year ending 31st March, 1961

Amount each local authority would have received by way of increase in main road maintenance grant if the 10% increase recently announced had been payable in 1960/61.

NOTE.—Main road maintenance grant is payable only to County Councils, County Borough Corporations, the borough Corporations of Dún Laoghaire and Drogheda and the Urban district council of Dundalk. It is proposed to increase the Urban Road Improvement Grant in 1962/63 by 10% (an increase of £5,000). In addition these urban authorities will receive compensation in respect of the loss of the Estate Duty Grant.
