Vol. 193 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Immigration into Britain.

35.

asked the Minister for External Affairs what are the arrangements, if any, made or to be made in the Republic to control coloured or other commonwealth citizens entering Britain from the Republic of Ireland in accordance with the recent British immigration legislation.

As I stated in reply to a question on the 21st February last, it will be necessary for us, if free movement of persons between here and Britain is to be maintained, to continue to ensure that aliens, who are not automatically admitted to Britain, cannot land here for the purpose of using this right of free movement to travel to that country.

The arrangements necessary to deal with the matter are still under consideration but any such arrangements will not be operated on the basis of race or colour.

Did you ask Tom Mboya the other night? Did you ask him?

All right, "my boyo"—keep silence.
