Vol. 193 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tullamore Road Improvement.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the road at Cloncon, Tullamore, County Offaly, is in a very bad state of repair; whether, as a large number of tractors and cars use this road, he will make available a special grant for its improvement, and how much has been spent on this road in the past five years.

I understand that the road, which is at present being repaired, is of a reasonable standard for the traffic it carries. It is, however, for the county council to decide whether it should be further improved out of their county road improvement grant which this year is £59,700. Special grants are not made available for improvement of such roads. Details are not available in the Department of expenditure out of rates by county councils on particular roads.
