Vol. 193 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Curragh Camp Workers: Five-Day Week.

53.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he has received representations from trade unions regarding the application of the five-day week to general labourers, road workers and pioneers employed at the Curragh Camp; and if he has yet arrived at a decision in the matter.

Certain representations regarding the working conditions of the classes mentioned have been received from trade unions. Decisions on these matters will be conveyed in the very near future.

Could the Minister give any idea as to when the decisions are likely to be made? I understand the present position to be that many of the people whose cases have not yet been decided turn in on duty in the morning and have to stand there until the people who have got the shorter hours have come.

This is a speech.

Would the Minister say when?

The Deputy is bringing me into a lot of detail about which I have no information, but I can say there will be a decision in the matter to which the Deputy refers in the very near future. The Deputy will not have long to wait.
