Vol. 193 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Travelling Conditions for Horses.

24.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is satisfied that thoroughbred show horses and various jumpers have travelled under perfect conditions to various places on the Continent by sea and land; whether working type horses travelled under similar conditions; and if he is in a position to indicate the age range of thoroughbreds and jumpers concerned in these journeys.

All horses exported by sea are subject to the same prescribed conditions. These include veterinary examination before shipment and regulations as to accommodation, feeding, watering and attendance during the voyage. A number of show jumpers and hackney horses have been exported under licence but I am not in a position to indicate the age ranges of these horses.
