I move:
That a Supplementary sum not exceeding £10 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1962, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Office of the Minister for Local Government, including Grants to Local Authorities, Grants and other expenses in connection with Housing, and Miscellaneous Grants.
The purpose of this Supplementary Estimate is to enable payments which have matured to be made by my Department to local authorities in respect of additional special works which have been undertaken by them during the year on roads where railway lines were closed and on roads leading to industrial undertakings. As I have already indicated in relation to the Road Fund (Grants) (Temporary Provisions) Bill, 1962, grants have been allocated to certain local authorities for such works and these grants will be financed partly from a further supplement to the Road Fund for which provision is made in the Bill. The total amount of the supplement required in the current financial year is £150,000, but, since there will be savings on another subhead of the Vote, the present Supplementary Estimate is limited to a token sum of £10.
