asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of auxiliary postmen employed by his Department on the 31st December, 1961, and their average weekly wage.

The number of auxiliary postmen employed on 31st December, 1961, was approximately 2,800.

Auxiliary postmen are employed for periods varying from 12 to 36 hours per week. They are paid on an hourly basis. The rates vary from 3/6 to 4/2 an hour depending on factors such as the age and length of service of the postman and the area in which he is employed.
