Vol. 194 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Schools in Wexford.

44.

asked the Minister for Education what plans his Department have at present for the provision of new schools in County Wexford; and what stage has now been reached in any such plans.

The records of my Department show that 23 national schools in County Wexford are scheduled for replacement by new buildings. The stage reached at present in regard to the provision of new schools in these cases is: (i) Grants have been sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of four new schools but detailed drawings have to be prepared prior to the invitation of tenders; (ii) Suitable sites have been offered for three new schools and negotiations are proceeding regarding preliminary matters which have to be settled before grants can be sanctioned; (iii) My Department is awaiting reports from the Office of Public Works regarding the suitability of sites offered for six new schools; (iv) In the remaining ten cases, the managers have been asked to obtain sites for new schools.
