Vol. 194 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prison Service Qualifications.

54.

asked the Minister for Justice what qualifications are required for entry into the prison service.

To be eligible for appointment candidates must be of good health and character, not less than five feet seven inches in height— five feet four inches for females—and be between the ages of twenty years and thirty years.

To qualify for permanent appointment a candidate must satisfy the Civil Service Commissioners, through the medium of a competitive examination, as to suitability for appointment. Temporary posts are filled from the list of candidates who have been qualified by the Civil Service Commissioners for permanent appointments; if such lists become exhausted the posts are filled from a list of applications for temporary appointments.
