Vol. 194 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision for Evicted Tenants.

12.

asked the Minister for Health what is the minimum provision which his Department or a local health authority must make for a tenant and the members of his family who are evicted from an unfit dwelling.

My Department has no direct functions in relation to a tenant and the members of his family who are evicted from an unfit dwelling. Where the evicted person is unable to provide shelter and maintenance for himself or his dependants, he is eligible for institutional assistance from his local health authority. Instituttional assistance means shelter and maintenance in a county home or similar institution.

Does that mean night shelter only?

It means institutional assistance in accordance with the regulations. It may mean until such time as they are able to find shelter for themselves.
