Vol. 194 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Paul Singer Prosecution: Costs Award.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance what costs were awarded against the State in favour of Dr. Singer; whether any bill has yet been delivered for such costs or any part thereof, and if so, the amount thereof; and out of what subhead of what vote such costs have been or will be paid.

Costs were awarded against the State in respect of Dr. Singer's two habeas corpus actions, his appeal to the Court of Criminal Appeal and in respect of his subsequent retrial. A sum of £576 10s. 6d. has been paid in respect of his first habeas corpus action. Bills of costs have been taxed at £101 7s. 4d. for the second action for habeas corpus and £219 18s. 0d. for the hearing before the Court of Criminal Appeal but as these accounts have not yet been certified no payment has been made in respect of them. No bill of costs has yet been furnished in respect of the retrial.

All of these payments have been or will be charged to Subhead D of Vote 18.
