Vol. 194 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Airport Housing Scheme.

31.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if it is his intention to erect a major housing scheme at Shannon Airport; and if so, if he will state the number of houses to be erected, and the name and address of the architect employed on the scheme.

The answer to the first part of the Question is in the negative and, accordingly, the remaining parts of the Question do not arise. I may say, however, for the information of the Deputy that the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Ltd. is providing 247 dwellings at the Airport for employees in the Industrial Estate. This programme comprises 110 houses and 137 flats. Ten houses have been completed and the scheme of flats is nearing completion. The employment of technical consultants, including architects, for housing purposes is a matter for the Company. The question of the extent to which further housing should be provided is at present under consideration by my Department and the other Departments concerned.
