Vol. 194 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building of Houses in Dublin.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the decline in house-building by Dublin Corporation over the past number of years; and what steps he proposes to take to ensure that there is a considerable increase in house-building in the city area.

There has been an increase in the number of eligible applicants for rehousing in the last year while at the same time the rate of vacancies in the existing estate has fallen appreciably. The Dublin Corporation, in view of these altered circumstances, have already arranged an expansion of their programme. This is evident in the increased number of completions this year as compared with the previous year, in the volume of work in progress and that planned for next year and in the anticipated increased level of housing capital expenditure.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total amount spent by Dublin Corporation on building houses and flats in each financial year since 1950, and the sources of such expenditure.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—
