Vol. 194 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Anti-Smoking Drugs.

3.

asked the Minister for Health whether there is available under the health service a supply of anti-smoking drugs; and, if so, the nature of such drugs and the category of persons to whom such may be supplied.

No specific anti-smoking drugs are included in the Department's Contract Lists of Medicines which are issued for the guidance of health authorities in connection with the supply of medicines generally required for patients.

Medical officers of health authorities are not, of course, restricted to the use of medicines included in those Lists. The responsibility of deciding the nature of the treatment to be afforded and the medicine to be used in each particular case is a matter for the medical practitioner concerned.
