Vol. 194 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilmessan (Meath) Estate.

55.

asked the Minister for Lands when eight houses were erected on the Crerogue Estate, Kilmessan, County Meath; how many migrants were brought to inspect farms on this estate; and how many of them have accepted farms.

These houses are in course of erection and it is hoped to allot them soon.

At the present season, tentative arrangements for allocation are being made with applicants on a confidential basis. The Deputy will appreciate that, at this time—being the peak of the allotment season—there are constant negotiations and the situation changes from day to day. Just now, it is not possible to be definite about the final outcome.

Does the Minister mean to convey that so many people are being brought over to look at those lands and refuse to accept them that the Land Commission are unable to keep track of them, while the local people must wait until everybody refuses them?

The reply which I have just given means nothing other than what it says. I deprecate questions with the object of raising local ire against incoming migrants.

The Minister is aware that as a representative of County Meath, together with the other people from the county, I have at all times welcomed those people when they came there.

That is not a question.

I do not know the object of the Deputy's question.

The Minister will.
