Vol. 194 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hire Purchase of Fishing Boats.

59.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of the ten years ended 31st December, 1961 (a) the number of boats supplied to hire purchase applicants by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara and the Irish Sea Fisheries Association Limited, (b) the ports to which such boats were allotted, (c) the number of boats allotted to each port, (d) the cost of each boat, (e) the total cost and outlay on the said boats, (f) the total instalments repaid, (g) the total of any of the outstanding moneys written off, (h) the total still outstanding, and (i) the total number of boats returned or taken back from the allottees by An Bord.

I am informed that, for the ten years ended 31st December, 1961, the number of new boats issued to hire-purchasers by the Irish Sea Fisheries Association, Ltd. and An Bord Iascaigh Mhara was 117 and their total cost was £898,047. With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the official Report a statement showing the number of these boats allotted to each port. During the same period 22 of these boats were surrendered or taken back. I understand that the other information sought by the Deputy is not readily available and I would suggest that he communicate with An Bord Iascaigh Mhara in the matter.
