Vol. 194 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Overflying of Shannon Airport.

42.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether he is yet in a position to state whether it is proposed to allow Shannon Airport to be overflown by aeroplanes other than Irish Airlines aeroplanes flying to Dublin.

Shannon Airport is not overflown by Irish Airlines aeroplanes flying to Dublin. The transatlantic service of Aerlinte lands at Shannon Airport in both directions.

As regards rights for other transatlantic services for which rights to and through Dublin were sought, the position has not changed since I answered a question on that subject in this House on 14th March, 1962.

Could the Minister give any idea, in order to save us the trouble of putting down this question every week, of when he will be in a position to answer the question?

I am not able to say when the United States Government will send their reply. I imagine it will be in the near future.

A month, a week or three months?

I could not be certain.
