Vol. 194 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscommon Bog Drainage.

51.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission propose to carry out a drainage scheme on a bog at Cornafulla North on the O'Connor Estate, County Roscommon.

Demand for turbary in this district generally is being met by the current development by the Land Commission, at an estimated cost of £13,000, of 900 acres of bog—in the townland of Carrickanaghter, Garrynagowna and Clonown, about two to three miles distant—which is intended to provide turbary facilities for 400 persons. Some allotments have, in fact, already been made on this bog. Development, including drainage, of the relatively small area of turbary on hands in Cornafulla must await the outcome of this major scheme, and it is not at present possible, therefore, to indicate when such work can be undertaken.
