Vol. 194 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dundalk Housing Estate Rents.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the sanction given by him for the reduction in rents of Marian Park tenants, Dundalk, County Louth, was not made retrospective.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government if overpayments by Marian Park tenants to Dundalk Urban Council benefited the Department of Local Government or the Dundalk Urban Council up to the time of the recent reduction in rent.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 30 and 31 together.

Rents for the Marian Park scheme recently approved by me were in accordance with proposals submitted by the housing authority, which provided that the adjusted rents would have effect from the week ended 23rd February, 1962. Both the provisional rent and that finally fixed are substantially below the economic rent of the houses and the question of "overpayment" by tenants does not therefore arise.
