Vol. 194 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Flight Handling Service.

8.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the conditions under which Shannon Air Services have been granted a licence to provide a handling service for flights through Shannon; and how it is expected that the granting of such a licence will affect employment prospects at Shannon.

The proposals submitted to me by Shannon Repair Services Ltd. relate to the provision at Shannon Airport of full-scale engineering facilities for aircraft repair and maintenance. The organisation will also be permitted to undertake a limited amount of traffic handling mainly for non-scheduled operations at the airport. The conditions attached to the licence will be such as to ensure that a satisfactory standard of services is offered.

I expect that the establishment of this organisation will attract additional business and should, therefore, result in an eventual overall increase in employment at the airport.
