Vol. 195 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National College of Art.

24.

asked the Minister for Education the person, persons or body statutorily responsible for the control and administration of the National College of Art, the tenure of their appointment, the date of their appointment and the name or names of those persons constituting any such controlling body.

The person or body concerned is the Minister for Education. The present holder of that office was appointed on the 24th June, 1959. For a number of reasons I am not in a position to say what the tenure of his appointment may be.

25.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has taken any steps to inquire into the validity of the serious charges made by the visiting Swedish inspectorial body concerning the inadequacy of the teaching methods now used at the National College of Art; and, if so, whether such enquiries were carried out by members of his Department and/or members of the staff of the National College of Art.

The report in question contained no charges concerning the methods of teaching in the National College of Art.

In this regard, I would refer the Deputy to my replies of 22nd February, 8th March and 4th April last to similar questions put by him.
