Vol. 195 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Moy Drainage Works.

12.

Mr. Browne

asked the Minister for Finance (1) the number of applications received for the inclusion of important works in the Moy Drainage Scheme, (2) the number of those works examined, (3) the number that received favourable consideration and (4) the number rejected.

13.

Mr. Browne

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that a large number of important streams in the Moy catchment area which would economically benefit from drainage are not included in the Moy Drainage Scheme; and that there has been a long delay in having them examined with a view to including them in the scheme; and if he will take immediate steps to have the extra works completed.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 12 and 13 together. In the preparation of the Moy catchment drainage scheme it was the intention to include all arterial watercourses in the catchment which it would be economic to improve. A number of watercourses were excluded because they were considered uneconomic in the light of the information disclosed by the engineering and valuation surveys of the catchment carried out prior to the preparation of the scheme. Applications for the inclusion of some of those watercourses have been received since the scheme started and they will be investigated further according as the works programme permits. The total number of applications received is 150, and to date 41 of them have been investigated. Of those investigated 19 have been granted while 22 were found to be inappropriate for inclusion in the scheme.
