Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages of Injured FCA Members

63.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that from time to time members of the FCA who are injured while on special training, subsequently suffer a loss of wages arising out of such injuries; and, if so, if he will consider having these people compensated by at least granting them their weekly wages while they are unable to resume their employment.

A member of An Fórsa Cosanta Aitiúil who sustains injury attributable to his service may be paid basic compensation, the rate of which varies with his degree of disablement resulting from the injury. The rate of basic compensation corresponding to a degree of disablement of 100 per cent. is £4 10s. per week. If he suffers a loss of earnings in excess of the appropriate rate of basic compensation he is also paid an allowance equal to the difference between the basic compensation and the loss of earnings or the sum of £7 5s. per week, whichever is the less.
