Vol. 195 No. 14

Written Answer. - Retirement Gratuities of Army Officers.

71.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will specify with reference to a reply of 22nd May, 1962 (a) the subsequent schemes amending the 1937 scheme mentioned in the reply, giving the title, reference number and year in each case, and (b) the articles of the said schemes providing for the payment of the gratuities referred to and the conditions attaching to their payment, giving the number of each such article.

The subsequent schemes referred to are—Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Scheme 1940 (S.R. & O. No. 299 of 1940); Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Scheme, 1947 (S.R. & O. No. 81 of 1947); Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Scheme, 1949 (S.I. No. 209 of 1949); Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) (No. 2) Scheme, 1949 (S.I. No. 291 of 1949); Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Scheme, 1953 (S.I. No. 259 of 1953); Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Scheme, 1956 (S.I. No. 35 of 1956); Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Scheme, 1957 (S.I. No. 152 of 1957); Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) (No. 2) Scheme, 1957 (S.I. No. 194 of 1957); Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Scheme, 1959 (S.I. No. 66 of 1959); Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Scheme, 1960 (S.I. No. 135 of 1960); Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Scheme, 1962 (S.I. No. 42 of 1962).

The last-mentioned scheme has not yet come into operation as it has not yet been confirmed by resolution of each House of the Oireachtas as required by Section 4 of the Defence Forces (Pensions) Act, 1932 (No. 26 of 1932).

The compilation, in the form in which the Deputy requests it, of the other information for which he asks would involve considerably more time and labour than I feel would be justified. If, when the Deputy has read the schemes, he finds that there is any specific information which he requires, I shall do my best to supply it.
