Vol. 195 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Forestry Lands.

35.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will investigate the possibility of obtaining further lands for forestry work in the area of Durrow, County Laois; and if steps will be taken to acquire or purchase additional land for this work at an early date.

My Department is doing everything possible to acquire more land for forestry development in the Durrow area but the amount of land available for that purpose in the district is limited. At present my Department is dealing with 16 offers of land totalling 771 acres there. Agreement to purchase three areas totalling 56 acres has been reached and title to these areas is in course of clearance. Negotiations to purchase seven other areas totalling 100 acres are in progress and the remaining cases are at the preliminary stages of investigation.
