asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the journal Inniu (a) the total State subsidy paid to the publishers since its establishment, (b) the present weekly circulation, and (c) the amount of subsidy provided for in the current estimates and the terms upon which it is paid.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Subsidies to Irish Language Periodicals.
The information sought by the Deputy is as follows: (a) £99,378, (b) 9,028, (c) £13,780.
Payment is made on condition that the newspaper is published regularly; that it contains eight pages and that the published sale price be not less than 4d. per copy. The publishers are also required to furnish audited accounts and figures of circulation.

asked the Minister for Education the amount which it is proposed to pay to Inniu in State subsidy for the year ending 31st March, 1963, and the corresponding amount which it is proposed to pay to the periodical Deirdre in State subsidy for the same period.
Provision has been made in my Department's Estimates for a grant of £13,780 to Inniu in respect of the current financial year. No provision has been made in the Estimates for a grant to Deirdre.

asked the Minister for Education what payment he proposes to make to the Irish language periodical Deirdre in respect of the subsidy it should normally have received from the date of its first publication in 1954 to date, estimated, on the basis applicable to a similar periodical, to aggregate to some £5,200.
As I have already explained to the Deputy in reply to a question on 10th March, 1959, the State does not undertake to assist every Irish language periodical. Accordingly there are no grounds for the implication in his question that the periodical Deirdre has had an entitlement to State assistance from the date of its first publication.
43.
asked the Minister for Education the total amounts paid for all years up to 31st March, 1962, in State subsidies to each of the following Irish language publications: Inniu, Comhar, Feasta, An t-Ultach, Ar Aghaidh, An Timire, Tír na n-Og, Galvia and Amárach; and the sum, if any, paid in State subsidy to Deirdre from the date of its first publication in 1954 to 31st March, 1962.
The information sought by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report.
