Vol. 196 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Westmeath, Meath and Kildare Roads.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is in a position to state what mileage of roads in (1) Westmeath (2) Meath and (3) Kildare is not now on the county charge, though used by more than one member of the public; and what mileage of such roads has been taken over in each county since 1st April, 1935.

The information requested in the first part of the Deputy's Question is not available in my Department.

As to the second part of the Question, the mileages of county roads maintained by the county councils of Westmeath, Meath and Kildare increased by 55.0, 188.3 and 7.04 miles, respectively, since 1st April, 1935.

Could the Minister say whether that includes new main roads as well as county roads taken over? In other words, does it include new main road diversions?

No; I would not think so. This would be additional—at least, I presume so. I shall check on it and if I am misinforming the Deputy, I shall let him know.
