Vol. 196 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Contributions to Private Hatcheries.

77.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state with regard to the item Contributions to Privately Owned Hatcheries (Vote 41, subhead D.2 (2)) in the Estimate for the Fisheries Section of his Department for the year 1962-63 what privately owned fish hatcheries receive the contributions referred to; and what are the conditions laid down by his Department for qualification for such contributions.

No privately owned hatchery has so far received a contribution in the current financial year. In 1961/62 there was one contribution which was paid to Lismore Estates for salmon ova purchased for resale to angling associations and others; the amounts realised on resale of the ova were credited to subhead I.10 and were more than sufficient to cover the contribution.

Is it not a fact that roughly £800 was provided for hatcheries last year and this year it has been reduced to £550.

The amount varies according to the merits of each application.
