Vol. 196 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Subsidy for Irish Language Publication.

91.

asked the Minister for Education whether an application for a subsidy from his Department has been received from the Irish publication Agus; whether such application has been refused; and, if so, the reasons why.

As I have already explained in reply to questions on 13th November, 1958, and 10th March, 1959, there are no general regulations governing the grant of State assistance to periodicals in Irish. Each case is considered on its merits.

I have considered an application for a grant to Agus. I regret that my consideration of the matter forced me to the conclusion that the grant which would be required would be out of all proportion to the public support for the venture which would be likely to be forthcoming.
