Vol. 196 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Publicising of Health Department Work.

11.

asked the Minister for Health on what facets of the work of his Department information was disseminated by publicity means under Vote 54, subhead K of the Estimate for his Department during the year 1961-62; and the amount of money expended on publicity for each matter thus publicised.

Health publicity material was issued by my Department in 1961-62 on the following topics:— Diphtheria Immunisation, Mumps, Sore Throat, Measles, Cough in Children and Whooping Cough, Dental Care, Ante-natal Care, Worms in Children, Poliomyelitis, Smoking and Lung Cancer, Cleanliness in Handling Food and Fly Eradication.

Advertisements on the fluoridation of public piped water supplies and on poliomyelitis vaccination were inserted in the national newspapers.

The following aspects of health education were covered in the film shows given for my Department by the National Film Institute in schools and halls throughout the country:— Dental Care, Diphtheria Immunisation, Tuberculosis, Germs, Posture, Food Hygiene, Accident Prevention and care of the eyes and ears.

As the cost of disseminating information on health is not apportioned as between the various subjects covered, it is not practicable to specify the amount expended on publicising each topic.
